The reserve offers well marked trails through riverine forests, coastal grassland and thickets, providing birders with over 130 different species to look for. We have a number of dams attracting water birds. Enthusiasts can observe a variety of species in their natural habitats, from soaring raptors to colorful songbirds, all while enjoying the serene beauty of lush landscapes and tranquil waters.

What To Look Out For

River Valley Nature Reserve is home to over 130 different bird species. Bring along a pair of binoculars and see how many you can spot. Some of the species that can be seen are : African Crowned Eagles, African Fish Eagles, Black Sparrowhawk, African Harrier Hawk, Narina Trogon, African Finfoot, Purple and Knysna Turaco, Green Malkoha, Spotted Ground Thrush, Blue-Mantled Crested Flycatcher.
